1,457 new companies were formed in Ireland this November - up 11% on November 2013's figure (1,315) - an average of 48 start-ups per day.

That continues the positive trend we've seen with company formations this year with every month showing a higher number of start-ups than it did in 2013. In fact, the figure for company start-ups in all of last year (15,662), was surpassed on November 20th when this year's figure reached 15,686 - this has since risen to 16,601.

The three most popular industries for start-ups this November were professional services, wholesale & retail and social & personal services. There was also positive news for the real estate, transport & logistics and motor sectors which all saw increases in start-ups of over 60% compared to November 2013.

Further positivity in November came from a drop in corporate insolvencies. 108 companies were declared insolvent last month which is down 19% on last November's total (133).

The majority of insolvent companies were located in Dublin (65%) with a further 11% based in Galway and Limerick (6.5% and 4.6% respectively). The majority of industries saw a drop in the number of insolvencies affecting them compared to November 2013 with construction showing the most notable decline, dropping from 28 cases to 13.
